The Prater's Mill Country Fair is a legendary, twice-yearly Appalachian heritage festival held at the historic 1855 gristmill in Dalton, Georgia. The event features nearly 200 juried artisans, live mountain music, and authentic Southern food. Event Highlights: Arts & Crafts: Almost 200 artisans showcase original, handmade crafts ranging from blacksmithing and woodcarving to quilting and rug hooking. Southern Food: Traditional fare includes pit-cooked barbecue, fried pies, homemade ice cream, and more. Entertainment: Appalachian-style clogging, country bands, and gospel singers perform throughout the weekend. History: Visitors can explore the preserved 1855 working gristmill, the Westbrook Barn, and the first doctor's office in the county. Essential Details Location: Prater's Mill Historic Site, 5845 GA Hwy 2, Dalton, GA 30721. Dates & Times: Held annually in the fall (usually the second weekend of October). The 2026 fair is scheduled for October 10th and 11th (Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Admission: Typically around $10 for adults, with free admission for children 12 and under and active military with ID. Parking: Free parking and shuttle services are provided.
